It’s that time of year again, the time where you frantically search for something to give to all of your neighbors and friends. And that time where your sweet tooth seems to be MUCH stronger than usual.

I could easily spend 2 hours roaming the holiday aisles of Kroger.

My fiance asked if I would put something together for a few of his co-workers, so I decided to grab all of our favorite Christmas snacks and put them together.

And that is how the Christmas Trail Mix was born.

How to make Christmas trail mix

-I started with my two favorite forms of chocolate during this holiday season. Toffee Symphony bars, and our dads personal favorite, orange sticks.

-I broke up the chocolate and sliced up the orange sticks.

-I used a knife to chop the candy bar, but soon realized it gets pretty crumbly.

-You could break it into squares, or cut into large chunks to avoid it getting to crumbly.

-I cut the orange sticks into fourths. You could use raspberry sticks too, but we love the chocolate orange flavor this time of year.

-The rest of the trail mix is really pretty simple. All of your favorite trail mix staples turned Christmas, make this so festive.

-I added regular M&M’s and threw in the seasonal Caramel M&M’s too. Toss in some pretzels, peanuts, and my favorite addition, coconut.

Stick to a flavor

Although you could throw just about anything into this mix, we recommend sticking to a flavor. You don’t want to have orange, strawberry, and mint flavored things. It may taste like you brushed your teeth and then drank orange juice.

If you are sticking to a fruity theme, stick to candy, chocolate and salty foods that would mix well.

If you do all mint, add mint M&M’s, Andes Mints, Mint Oreos, etc.

Crowd favorite

This sweet and salty snack was disappearing by the handfuls. It’s delicious and can easily be adapted if we somehow left out your favorite Christmas candy.

I also keep it in a large Christmas treat bowl I have on my kitchen counter. I set it out, had some family over for a holiday get together, and by the end of the night, it was gone.

Everyone loves this, because there is something delicious for everyone in the mix whether you like sweet or salty.

Chop up some Andes mints and use mint M&M’s if you like the chocolate mint taste. You really can’t go wrong.

We’ll be packing up this mix for all of our friends and family this year. Only took about 15 minutes to throw together and we got about 8 fairly large bags out of this one batch.

I found these adorable to/from tags in the seasonal department of Kroger.

    what are orange sticks???

  3. Cyd says:

Orange sticks are chocolate covered with chocolate. The orange is kind of like a orange jelly center similar to an orange slice (but way better). Here is a link to them on Amazon.https://www.amazon.com/Sweets-Company-Chocolate-Orange-10-5-Ounce/dp/B004SKIY24/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1545329938&sr=8-4&keywords=orange%2Bsticks&th=1

Looks good. Wondering what size can of peanuts, bags of candy and size bars you used? I"m sure this is a flexible recipe and no need to be exact, but want to get proportions right. Thank you!
